La Denouementeuse*

ABOUT ME

I'm Ingrid Gascoigne, and I'm dipping my toes into the ink.

After a brush with mortality, I decided I had better get on with it.  "It" being writing, the ultimate excuse to shoosh my family cantankerously, and hang about in library reading rooms and cafes, savoring the aroma of frothy cappuccino and even frothier words.

So, I'm an aspiring writer.  So far, more aspiration than inspiration.  That's not to say I've not been published (I have)**.  Or that I don't sometimes pen a few lines in my role as an anonymous servant of the Commonwealth (I do).  But that kind of writing is all dry crackers, and now I'm more interested in juicy, magical fiction.  And the occasional bit of (bad?) poetry to placate my repressed inner-teenager.  At present I am concentrating on short fiction with a YA/fantasy bent, and am honing my skills for the novel I'm stewing.

These days, writing is about developing my craft and my confidence, and maybe earning some kind of readership along the meandering path to publication.  Meandering, because I also work in a paid job, and I study, and occasionally I pat the dog and make eye contact with my children.

* Denouementeuse is a made-up word. Storyteller's prerogative.
** No, I'm not an ethnographer.  Writers, check your facts.
